Pink Autumn Leaf | Wide Cuff | Recycled Plastic

I love collecting all the coloured leaves in autumn.  So I made this leaf-wide cuff in tribute to them. I collected pinks, soft yellows, and toffee colours and used them in fades to celebrate the leaves I was looking at. This cuff is a one-off as it is impossible to exactly replicate the colours.

I collect, dry, and press the leaves then heat the acrylic and press the leaves into the surface. I use them as a stencil to apply the colours, which give my botanical jewellery a contemporary feel. The Elm leaves is then peeled off to reveal the design. This is a method of dying and embossing plastic I developed myself. I call it 'fossilized plastic' due to the fine details, like fossils, that are captured on the embossed surface. I was particularly pleased by the detail of the veins of the leaves and how thy have come out.  I hope that the wearer will not only enjoy them as jewellery but also review their appreciation of the natural world.
